Review of Adjustable Clamp Pony 1225 Rapid Acting Band Clamp

I've purchased a total of three of these band clamps over the last couple years. I do a lot of curved panel work and they are quite handy for that application. The included corner blocks come in handy for those who do a lot of small-to-medium sized frames too. One problem is that the clamp body is made of plastic (the 'Y' section into which the screw handle inserts). On 2 of the 3 clamps I own, while clamping curved casework where only the band itself was used to apply circular clamping force (no clamp blocks were used), one or both of the plastic guides on the 'Y' section broke completely off the clamp body. I must admit that Pony was quite good about replacing the entire clamp when I informed them about this failure mode, but Ibelieve that the clamps have a limited range of application and should not be used in any clamping configuration where the band angle of entry into the clamp body is equal to or greater than the angle of the clamp guide's throat. For example, if you intended to band clamp an oval table pedestal of about 4' length and 1' width, with the clamp body located on the long side of the workpiece, you would run into the above situation (that is, incidentally, the application where one of the above-mentioned failures occurred). I believe that the product could be vastly improved if the clamp body were fabricated of aluminum, steel, or iron, instead of the plastic it is currently made from.
