Review of Jorgensen 3204-HT 4 Inch Pony Spring Clamp

I have half a dozen of these clamps in my shop and I think they are decent little clamps.Being steel, they are very sturdy and I have found the spring/jaw tension to be excellent.Though I don't use them all the time, at times I find myself with a clamping need that only these clamps can satisfy. The only reason that I am not giving these five stars is because over time the rubbery-plastic tips on the jaws (that protect your work) tend to work loose and slide off. This can be a bit annoying.Other than that one minor complaint, these are good clamps that I have had a lot of success using.

Review of Jorgensen 3203-HT 3-Inch Pony Spring Clamps

I can't think of anything about these spring clamps that I'd change.I use them for woodworking to hold on trim (or whatever) and they do the job.

For 2" spring clamps I use cheap ones ($0.99) from home depot. They aren't quite as nice but they do the job just fine.

Review of 10 Pack Adjustable Clamp 3202HT 2" Pony Spring Clamps

You might think a spring clamp is a spring clamp but after using a cheap Chinese clamp and it has has dented your wood project you might look closer. I have Pony clamps that are 25 years old and still working great. I just needed more for larger projects. The Chinese junk is gone from my shop. Don't waste your money.

Review of Adjustable Clamp Pony 1225 Rapid Acting Band Clamp

I've purchased a total of three of these band clamps over the last couple years. I do a lot of curved panel work and they are quite handy for that application. The included corner blocks come in handy for those who do a lot of small-to-medium sized frames too. One problem is that the clamp body is made of plastic (the 'Y' section into which the screw handle inserts). On 2 of the 3 clamps I own, while clamping curved casework where only the band itself was used to apply circular clamping force (no clamp blocks were used), one or both of the plastic guides on the 'Y' section broke completely off the clamp body. I must admit that Pony was quite good about replacing the entire clamp when I informed them about this failure mode, but Ibelieve that the clamps have a limited range of application and should not be used in any clamping configuration where the band angle of entry into the clamp body is equal to or greater than the angle of the clamp guide's throat. For example, if you intended to band clamp an oval table pedestal of about 4' length and 1' width, with the clamp body located on the long side of the workpiece, you would run into the above situation (that is, incidentally, the application where one of the above-mentioned failures occurred). I believe that the product could be vastly improved if the clamp body were fabricated of aluminum, steel, or iron, instead of the plastic it is currently made from.

Review of Pony 52 2-1/2-Inch Pipe Clamp Fixture for 1/2-Inch Black Pipe

These clamps are the little cousin of Pony's great 3/4" pipe clamps. While the 1/2" clamps work fine within their limits, they do havelimits.Applying a lot of pressure will flex a 1/2" pipe, possiblyleading to an out of square joint.I also do not think that the clamptightening mechanism is as well made as on the 3/4" clamps, but it isstill pretty good.I have several of these clamps and while I think theyare a good value for the money, I would suggest spending a few more dollarsfor the 3/4" clamps.

Review of Adjustable Clamp 13025 Pony Light-Duty Clamp-on Vise

I am very pleased with how well this little vise works. I make silver jewelry and this was one of the few vises I have found with smooth clamp faces. I use it to draw wire, make bends and hold pieces for detail work. It is solid enough for some heavy hammering-on, and the screw is precise and smooth in operation. A very well-made tool.

Review of Pony 8510BP Cabinet Claw (2-Pack)

The cabinet claw clamps by pony are probably the most innovative kitchen cabinet installation tool on the market. These clamps make aligning cabinet stiles fairly simple with the perpendicular adjustment. They arevery rigid and can often be your only support when hanging wall cabinets. A nice feature is they come with rubber padding to protect the cabinets. If you do kitchen installations like I do,you must have these clamps. They are well worth the fifty dollars.

Review of Pony 56 2-1/2" Deep Reach Clamp & Spreader Fixture for 3/4" Pipe

These clamps have been around forever and for those of us who are older than dirt they are like dear friends that we could not bear living without.I have several and will continue using them until one of us wears out.

Novice and weekend woodworkers might find that they are a little more trouble than they're worth. If you have never used these clamps in the past then I strongly suggest that you find a way somehow to try them out first. The deep throat pipe clamp has a somewhat awkward feel when compared to the Jorgensen #50 3/4" Pony Pipe Clamp and it is definitely going to be more difficult to use.

From the beginner to the dusty old pro and everyone in between, if you're just not sure that this is the one for the job I recommend that before buying these clamps try wrapping your hand around the one of the new Jorgensen ISD Bar Clamps. For the price these ISD bar clamps are in my opinion are the best I've ever used. The first time I got my paws on one I bought a half of a dozen. Within two weeks I owned 8 each of the 6's, 12's and 18's and I'm trying really hard to convince myself that I don't need any 24's because I don't have the room to extend my clamp rack again. But then everyone says, you'll always need one more clamp no matter how many you have.

Now back to the Pony 3/4" Deep Throat Pipe Clamp. There are some applications where this clamp is absolutely perfect but for every one of those there are many where it is not.I don't know why but I have found that many woodworkers, myself included, have a tendency to crank these guys down a little more than they would other clamps.Be aware that you will damage your work if these clamps are not used properly.I have to constantly remind myself that when I go for one more turn most likely I have already gone one turn too many.

Review of Jorgensen 50 Pony 3/4-Inch Pipe Clamp Fixture

These clamps are great and no matter how many you own you will always need one more.To make them even more usable buy pipe that is threaded on both ends. Then you can use a connector to join the pipes together if you need a longer clamp. We connected five 48" bars together once to make a 20' clamp and used it to draw up the rails on a deck.

With both ends threaded you'll need to protect the threads on the exposed end of the clamp. For 3/4" pipe I use 1" heavy rubber chair foot protectors. They are the rubber pads you often see used on the bottom of a cane or pair of crutches. You should be able to find them at any hardware or big box store sold in packs of four for a couple dollars. Just think of it as a low cost investment that may save you a lot of grief later on. The pads last almost ten years before they dry out and need to be replaced. They'll not only protect the pipe threads but if you ever stand them up on end, and we all do, they won't slip and possibly damage a job site floor. When doing a kitchen one of our guys had a clamp slip and the cost of the floor repair would have bought more pads than you and I both would have used in several lifetimes.

Additionally, you should consider putting rubber pads on the end all of your pipe clamps whether they're threaded or not. I have a crescent shaped scar on my right foot that is a constant reminder that every pipe clamp needs a rubber pad on the end.For almost 30 years I've kept pads on every 3/4" pipe clamp I own and if the pad is off or missing it does not leave the shop.
